Open letter to myself
(The fascination with 30 Seconds to Mars)
Dear me,
this might not be the end of 30 Seconds to Mars. But things might be a bit different from now on. No new pictures every day, not being able to tell where in the world the band is. Memories will start to fade, no matter how hard you will try to hold on to them. So whenever you feel like the feeling is slipping through your fingers, please read this reminder over and over.
Tomo, that guy that looks like Jesus and just seemed to be some random band member when you first found out about him. But turned out to be the one who could make everyone feel special. Remember how happy his smile could make you. How he could even cheer you up when tears were running down your face. Try to be as kind as he is to people. It would make you a better person.

And Shannon, the quite dangerous looking guy with the tiny heart. Remember how much love you felt for him. How happy he seemed to be at moments he thought no one would see him smiling. Not all guys are assholes. Even the toughest looking guys might be little sensitive boys on the inside.

Jared, Jared Leto. If there was one thing I could wish for, it would be for you to remember the way he changed your view on life. How he made the world look completely different. Look at all the little things. Take the time to feel and experience. Be aware of every thing that’s going on around you. Live. Be alive. Care about people the way he does. Be loyal. Be more than just a pretty face – listen to what people have to say. Do not put yourself on a higher level than anoyone else, no many how many times you’re told you are beautiful. It will not make you look any better.
And work for what you are trying to achieve. Waiting for miracles will never get you anywhere in life.
Remember that you are able to make a change in the world. Support others to take care of the environment. Of animals. Of people who don’t get any chance in life at all. There is too much cruelty in this world and you can only start with yourself.
Take care of your own body. Eat healthy. Your health is something really important, there’s a lot of people who don’t have a choice about what they eat at all. Why would you mess up your own body and health just because we could get anything from the supermarket? Be aware of what you eat.
And try to not forget what this band did for their fans, their family. The Echelon is the best thing that ever happened to you. The strangers that made you feel loved and welcomed. Fandoms should not be about hate.
This band crossed their own limits for us. All the things they did without ever getting a superstar attitude towards us. They have always been a part of us. They did not just pretend to care – they have been Echelon themselves from the very first moment.
Remember how the fans begged for a live stream of the last Mars show. The band making it possible by paying for it with their own money. Jared tweeting he woke up dreaming about VyRT.
Try to be a better person. 30 Seconds to Mars will always be an example of how different things can be.
Stay true to yourself. Care about others. And do not ever drown in self-pity but try to live every moment.
Be grateful for every single thing you get. You are blessed.
Your time on earth is limited – make the very best of it.
Love, Eszti.
